Tonight Greg N6CK will discuss Summits on the Air (SOTA), an award scheme for hams that encourages portable operation in mountainous areas. From one's home, from a nearly hilltop, or from the top of a summit, anyone can participate. Mountaineering skills are not required! Greg also will demo his ultra-portable expedition gear.
Tonight, in addition to hearing a Field Day preparations report from John N6FBA, we'll get a refresher course from Rich KE1B on the N1MM contact-logging software, which all of our stations will use on Field Day.
Allen WB7RWU and visitor Stu Phillips K6TU will talk about portable 10-GHz communication.
We have an interesting presentation for the September meeting: Rohan Agrawal, KJ6LXV, will present "Bluetooth APRS Text Messaging and Tweeting Systems." He is also the developer of the system being discussed. What is most interesting is that Rohan is 12 years old. He will be doing the presentation at SLVARC as a "warm up" for
John AC6SL will discuss his work on Yagis and Hex Beams.
At the March meeting we will have Ed Fong talk about the DBJ-1 and DBJ-2 antennas, which he conceived about 10 years ago. The theory and design of these antennas appeared in the March 2003 and April 2007 issues of QST. It is also reprinted in the ARRL Antenna Classics Handbook. To date over 9,000 antennas have been
